Lady Bulldogs down Maidens, boys split pair

The Bulldogs picked up a win over Arlee but dropped a contest against Ronan this week while the Lady Bulldogs blew out the visiting Maidens Thursday.
The Bulldogs erased a seven-point fourth-quarter deficit at home against Arlee to pick up a win Thursday as Mission downed the Warriors, 46-41.
Neither team could find the basket in the game's opening quarter as they teams fought to a 2-2 tie after eight minutes of play. Austin Durglo made a pair of baskets in the opening moments of the second frame to put Mission up by four. Later, a three by Nikko Alexander at the first-half buzzer put the Bulldogs up 18-8 at the break.
The third quarter belonged to Arlee as the Warriors used a 22-5 run to grab a 30-23 lead heading into the final eight minutes of play.
Mission came roaring back in the opening moments of the fourth quarter, going on a 7-0 run and tying the game at 30 on a three by Stuart Grant with 3:41 to play. The Bulldogs went up 34-30 before Arlee's Kasey Bridgewater answered with a three to cut the lead to one with 3:29 to go.
Mission led 38-33 with just over two minutes to play but Bridgewater added another three to cut the Bulldog lead to just two.
Dylan Evans took the game over for the Bulldogs from the free throw line down the stretch, making 6-6 from the charity stripe over the final minute and half as Mission held on to win by five.
"Arlee had a great year last year and we knew they had a lot of those kids coming back. We knew that in order for us to win that we would have to play very well," Mission coach Lloyd Phillips said. "This was a very big win for us against a very good team."
Austin Durglo led the Bulldogs in the win with 18 points, eight rebound, three steals and three assists while Grant finished with eight points and nine rebounds. Dylan Evans had eight points, six rebounds and four assists and Josh Durglo poured in eight points and seven boards.
Things did not go as well for the Bulldogs Thursday night as they hosted Ronan for stroke awareness night.
Mission scored the game's opening basket on a nice feed inside to Evans and answered a Chief three with a basket by Austin Durglo to go up 4-3. The Chiefs answered with an 11-0 run to go up 14-4 and the Bulldogs never recovered.
Down 22-9 after one quarter, the Bulldogs used a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 22-15 in the opening moments of the second frame but Ronan answered with an 11-0 surge to put the game away.
The Bulldogs were unable to cut into the gap the rest of the way as Ronan went on to get the win, 66-37.
"This was a very tough loss for us," Phillips said. "Ronan is our biggest rival. They came to our 'doghouse' and dominated us at both ends."
Evans led the Bulldogs with 11 points and three rebounds in the loss while Grant added eight points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals.
The Bulldogs sit 6-6 after the two games this week.
The Lady Bulldogs improved to 9-2 with a 49-23 win over visiting Ronan Thursday.
Both sides struggled to score in the opening quarter as Stephanie Lewandowski made the game's first basket on a jumper with 37 seconds to play in the frame. Ronan's Tailyr Irvine answered with a jumper but Cecelia Koskela made a basket at the buzzer to put Mission up 5-2 after eight minutes of play.
A pair of steals and subsequent layups put Mission up 9-2 in the opening moments of the second frame but Ronan answered to cut the advantage to 9-5. That was as close as the Maidens would get as the Lady Bulldogs pulled away from there. Mission outscored Ronan 28-13 over the final 16 minutes of play as the Lady Bulldogs pulled away to win by 26.
Kyla Mitchell led the way for Mission in the win with 15 points while Lewandowski had 12.
The Lady Bulldogs were in action at Arlee Monday evening. Details were not available at press time. The Bulldogs will be at Big Fork Tuesday evening and at home against Eureka Friday.
The Lady Bulldogs will face Eureka on the road Friday.
