WHITEFISH — Senior Kiry Detwiler and junior d’Artagnan Dominguez led the Ronan High School speech and debate team at a competition held on Saturday, Dec. 2.
Detwiler placed fourth in Lincoln-Douglas Debate out of 29 competitors. He was undefeated in preliminary rounds and lost in the semi-final in a 2-1 decision.
Dominguez was not far behind, placing sixth after a series of tie-breakers were factored in.
It was a day of high-quality competition, coach Stephanie Swigart said, noting she was proud of her team.
“We have spent the last four years trying to build the debate program after we decided to switch our focus from a competitive drama program to a competitive speech and debate program,” she said via email.
