CHARLO - The Lady Vikings basketball team was dealt its first loss of the season last week as the girls went head to head in a battle of previously unbeaten District 14-C teams. Charlo hung with the Lady Bobcats early on, leading 13-12 after the first quarter. Superior hung with the Lady Vikings, however, tying the game at 26 as the halftime buzzer rang.
Charlo remained poised through the third quarter, holding Superior to only 10 points, while the Lady Vikings regained the lead by scoring 13. The Lady Bobcats hung in with Charlo in the fourth, outscoring the Lady Vikings 17-13 to pull out a 53-52 win. Superior’s Cary Chamberlain lifted the Lady Bobcats with a quick layup with only nine seconds remaining to give her team the one-point advantage.
Rachel Hoyt led Charlo with 16 points, while Dawn Blevins and Deondra Brown both added 10 apiece.
Chamberlain led the Lady Bobcats with 14, while Nicole Stroot added 12.
On Saturday, the Lady Vikings picked up their spirits and traveled to Philipsburg, where Charlo trounced the Lady Prospectors, 59-30.
The Lady Vikings set the tone early, jumping out to a 40-11 lead at halftime.
During the second half, Charlo closed out Philipsburg, winning easily, 59-30.
Kinley Pope led the way, finishing with 14 points, while Hoyt followed closely behind with 12. Dawn Blevins added seven.
The Lady Vikings host Arlee Jan.13 and Hot Springs Jan. 14.
