CHARLO – After starting the 2017 season 2-0, the Charlo Lady Vikings volleyball team suffered its first loss of the young season on Saturday evening.
The visiting Plains Lady Trotters defeated the Lady Vikings in Class 14C action 3-1 (25-21, 15-25, 25-11, 25-14).
The Lady Trotters took a quick 5-1 lead in the opening set before the Lady Vikings got things going offensively and battled back to take a 14-13 lead. Plains used a 6-0 run to take a 19-14 lead midway through the set. The Lady Vikings came back with a 4-0 run of their own to get within a point 19-18 before the Lady Trotters took control and closed out the set 25-21.
The Lady Vikings seemed to settle in the second set by taking a 5-1 lead. Plains managed to get the score as close as one point 8-7 before Charlo kicked off a 5-0 run to take control of the set 13-7. The Lady Vikings eventually won the set 25-15 and tied the match 1-1.
Plains started off strong in the third set, taking a commanding 7-2 lead. The closest Charlo got the rest of the set was eight at 16-8. The Trotters closed out the set 25-11 and took a 2-1 match lead over the Lady Vikings.
In the fourth and final set, Plains quickly found themselves ahead 10-4 and never looked back. The closest the Lady Vikings got the rest of the set was at 10-8. The Lady Trotters eventually used an 8-1 run at the end to win the set 25-14 and the match 3-1.
Junior Kaitlin Cox shined for the Lady Vikings with two aces, seven kills and a match-high 28 digs.
Senior Brooklyn Foust tallied a Lady Vikings team-high 10 assists and added two aces, while Allie Delaney contributed two blocks.
The Lady Vikings hope to improve their conference record to 3-1 on the road with a win against Hot Springs on Thursday.
