POLSON — The Montana Department of Agriculture (MDA) and the Montana Cherry Advisory Committee will be hosting the Montana Cherry Symposium at the KwaTaqNuk Resort in Polson on Thursday, Sept. 14. The symposium will bring together cherry industry experts, and producers for a day packed with education on growing famous Flathead cherries. The symposium is sponsored by Flathead Lake Cherry Growers, Glacier Fresh Cherries, Monson Fruit Company, Westland Seed, Fat Robin Orchard, and Domex Superfresh Growers.

Speakers will address topics on orchard systems, pollination, harvest methods, produce safety and nutrition. Producer and speaker panels will address questions that directly affect the growers. Registration is $30 and includes a light breakfast and lunch. Those interested in attending the symposium can register by visiting http://agr.mt.gov/Cherry-Symposium.

Montana sweet cherries, commonly referred to as Flathead cherries, are a favorite treat during the summer months. They are primarily grown around the Flathead Lake area where they thrive in the warmer lake climate.

The Montana Department of Agriculture’s mission is to protect producers and consumers, and to enhance and develop agriculture and allied industries. For more information on the Montana Department of Agriculture, visit www.agr.mt.gov.
