POLSON – Art of all varieties, from paint to leatherwork and more will be out for display and sale on the Lake County Courthouse lawn this weekend.

This year marks the 46th annual Sandpiper Art Festival and Sherry Jones, co-chairman of the festival, said she hopes this year’s event is just as big as in the past.

For years the art festival and Summerfest have been on the same weekend. Held just a block apart, the two events benefit from each other and together draw one large crowd to downtown Polson.

“Whether they come for the art festival or the car show, they’re likely to see both,” Jones said.

More than 60 artists will have booths set up to display and sell their artwork from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The artists range from painters to crafters and everything from fine art to handmade crafts will be on display. Along with a variety of art, several musicians will play at different times throughout the day including the Great Scots bagpipers and local group, the Wildflowers.

The event is a great way for both new and returning artists to share their work, Jones said.

The Sandpiper Art Gallery is a non-profit, locally run art cooperative. The event will be staffed by volunteers with all proceeds put toward local scholarships, promotion of the arts, funding of workshops as well as the gallery’s daily operating costs.

“For 46 years it has just been a fun event for local families and tourists alike to stop in and appreciate the artwork and gather as a community,” Jones said. “We hope it will continue to do that.”
