News from JML Technologist Inc.

POLSON – JML Technologist Inc. held their second Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation, otherwise known as CPR Workshop on July 27 and 28.

Twenty-two kids with the Boys and Girls Club in Polson were taught CPR skills and other life saving techniques.

CPR Instructor Joyce Lane, also a substitute teacher in the Polson School District, and her volunteer staff, believe “Even young kids can save lives.”

They decided kids, as well as community, can benefit from the CPR in Schools Program, which was developed by the American Heart Association.

During the workshop, the kids are given several scenarios about life saving emergency situations.  Their patients were mannequins, head and torso, for them to practice the life saving skills they were taught.  The kids were asked to imagine the mannequins as people to help them get in the moment of a life saving situation.

The boys and girls learned to check for response, call 911, administer 30 compressions, and two breaths to put air in the lungs. They also learned how to use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator), adult and child choking skills and how to use an Epi Pen for allergies.

Justin Brester, EMR and CPR Instructor, brought an ambulance to the club so the kids got to see what an EMR team does once they arrive on scene and prepare to transport. This was a highlight and kids said it showed them how the process works.

Senate Bill 135 encourages CPR training in school.  Lane says she appreciates the state recognizing that CPR is needed in the educational system.

JML Technologist Inc’s volunteers include Bevan Lane, assistant and photography; Jayme Cotter, RN at Polson School District; and Justin Brester, Polson Ambulance Service, EMR and a 2015 graduate of Polson High School.

Rainn 13, Shay 10, Violet 9, Giovanni 12, and Cortlin 11, said “CPR is great to know and that they could do this.”  Hunter and Fyrrah, both 10, said seeing inside the ambulance and EMTs do was awesome.

JML Technologist Inc. is looking for donations to purchase equipment that will assist in reaching everyone in the community to provide a better understanding of the need for CPR. Volunteers are welcome and certification is not required.

To schedule a class for kids or adults, or to donate please contact JML Technologist Inc. at: 50585 U.S. Highway 93, Polson, Mont. 59860; 406-883-2113 or 805-217-7380.
