Editor,

Margaret Mead’s quote hits me today as I hear her words “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” I am so very pleased with our Senator Carmine Mowbray and the citizens from Polson who supported and continue to support abolishing the death penalty in Montana.

This is a huge accomplishment with this moral and human issue that needed serious attention. As Senate Bill 185 moves now into the House, let us remember that our support of our senators and legislators is most important to finalize this bill. Also, remember that a life sentence without parole is not only the sensible economic solution to the death penalty, but to remind us of the horror of an innocent person put to death while on death row and later to be found not guilty.

Thank you, Senator Mowbray, and all who are looking at this issue. It is important to all of us that you are listening and putting our government programs to work for all and not just a few special interested parties.
