CHARLO – The Charlo Lady Vikings volleyball team remain perfect for the season after a pair of solid performances at home this week against two of the area’s top teams. On Friday, the Lady Vikings took on District 6-B Thompson Falls in a non-conference brawl, where Charlo finished strong to win, 22-25, 25-18, 28-26, 25-18.
“Thompson hits the ball hard even from the back row and they find your weak spots,” head coach Sheryl Kain said. “I think the girls adjusted very well.”
Kain added that the Bluehawks’ blocking was relentless, which was good for her team to experience.
“It’s something we don’t see a lot, so that was good for us to get used to,” Kain said.
Dawn Blevins led the Lady Vikings, as she finished with 16 assists and three blocks, while Kinley Pope led her team with five aces.
Deondra Brown added 19 digs, while Rachel Hoyt slammed 12 of the Lady Vikings’ 36 kills.
For Thompson Falls, Kelsey Fitchett had seven blocks and two aces.
On Saturday Charlo downed a talented Arlee team 3-0 after winning 25-22, 25-13, 25-14 in a District 10-C showdown. The two teams battled it out during the first game, with Charlo starting off flat, but managed to edge the Scarlets by three points.
“I think after the night before (against Thompson Falls) we were a little bit lax,” Kain said. “They hit the ball well the first game, but it seemed as the night went on, Arlee got a little off their game and we woke up.”
In the following two games, Charlo got into a good rhythm, as Brown and Pope were able to spot gaps in the Arlee defense to send the ball. Pope finished with 19 digs, while Dawn Blevins added four blocks. Derika Stipe set 15 assists and Hoyt led the team with three aces.
For Arlee, Mahalia Hendren led with six blocks, 11 kills, and two aces.
