RONAN — Local teams fared well against larger schools from Missoula at the Silver Fox meet in Ronan on Saturday. The top five runners determined team scores and Missoula’s Hellgate swept the boys’ and girls’ divisions.

Arlee Head Coach Katea Dreiling and Mission Head Coach Patrick Murphy were pleased with individual showings.

“It’s a complex course and I was really impressed with how well our team did,” Dreiling said.

Jordan Keltner took off more than a minute from his previous course time and all the girl runners erased at least three minutes off last year’s personal records.

“Des Nault really stepped it up this meet and pushed Tayla Desjarlais,” Dreiling said.

Keltner finished 63rd with a time of 23.20. Des Nault placed 58th (29.05) and Desjarlais was 59th (29.14).

“I thought our girls did great,” Murphy said. “All of them had their best times at Ronan.”

According to Murphy, the boys struggled a bit. They were without Paden Alexander who was sick and several of the boys played a football game the night before. One highlight was Karl Daniels, who improved his time by a minute.

Next up for Arlee and Mission is the Mountain West Classic in Missoula.

“This is one of the largest meets we will compete in,” Dreiling said. “Also, this will be the State course this year so it will be a nice preview for later.”

For the Ronan Chiefs, Danny Romero took 25th place after completing the course in 17.54, while Brady Oakland finished with a time of 18.29.

The Maidens were led by Ashley Grandchamp, who finished 35th, running the course in 22.42, while Kianna Howell was close behind, taking 37th place, with a time of 22.56.
