POLSON — Belgrade Montana native, Tara Bachofer, a Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, Idaho (WWAMI) Trust medical student will continue her education June 12 through July 7 at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center. Under the mentorship of Providence St. Joseph Medical Center’s Scot Swanson, M.D., she will be learning quality care under the Rural Underserved Opportunities Program.
RUOP is a four-week, elective immersion experience in community medicine for students between their first and second years of medical school. During their four-week rotation, students live in rural or small city underserved communities in Montana. They work side-by-side with local physicians providing health care to underserved populations.
Tara attended Montana State University earning a degree in Cell Biology and Neuroscience. She and her husband Jake enjoy time outside hiking and fishing. She hopes to return to rural Montana to practice medicine.
