News from Ronan City Fire Department

RONAN – New thermal imaging cameras and replacement tanks for breathing apparatuses will soon be utilized thanks to the $15,000 the Ronan Rural Fire District and the City of Ronan Volunteer Fire Department were awarded by Town Pump’s Charitable Foundation.

Mark Clary, who serves as chief of both the rural district and the city’s VFD, submitted grant applications on behalf of both entities.

The rural fire district was awarded a $10,000 grant to purchase thermal imaging cameras and the city’s department received a $5,000 grant to replace SCBA tanks for breathing apparatuses.

Clary said he is grateful for the improved safety the new thermal imaging cameras will afford his crew. He noted that as technology has improved, the new cameras are smaller and easier to handle. Firefighters can carry the cameras with one hand, instead of two, and they can take them inside buildings to identify hot spots.

He added that the SCBA tanks for breathing apparatuses must be replaced every so often and the city’s tanks are due.

In a letter to Clary, Town Pump Charitable Foundation President Maureen Kenneally writes, “It is difficult to find the proper words to express our appreciation for the perils you face to keep our communities safe; thank you and the entire community of firefighters for your time, expense and the sacrifices you make every day.”
