Six of Arlee’s eight Warrior wrestlers who competed in the Buzz Lucy Memorial in Eureka came home with medals. The Arlee grapplers finished with 112.5 points to place behind champions Columbia Falls (180), second place Eureka (133), and Libby (117) in Eureka. Columbia Falls defended its title in the 10-team event, scoring 47 points ahead of runner-up Eureka.

Garnering the lone title for the Warriors was Cameron Dominick, who defeated Columbia Falls’ Zayne Brunz in a 8-2 decision in the 135 division.

“Dominick wrestled extremely well, and probably the best I have ever seen of him on the mat,” said head coach Ken Hill.

Finishing second was Arlee’s Austin Rubel after he was pinned by Libby’s Garret Chapel in 2:50. Leif Rova also finished second in the 160-division after being pinned by Plains’ Kris Beech in 5:47.

“Rubel wrestled extremely solid all the way through to the 140 pound final where his one mistake of the tournament cost him a gold medal,” Hill added. “Rova has been improving each time he steps on the mat as all the Warriors wrestlers have been. He is getting tougher and tougher with each competition.”

Albert Plant (171) was third after pinning A.J. Robinson of Kalispell Glacier in 2:57.

“Al is deceptively talented on the mat and his technique keeps improving,” Hill shared.

In the 215-division, Columbia Falls’ Jacob Babcock pinned Cody North in 2:36.

“North took out some big guys on his way to the championship, but lost in the finals to a Columbia Falls wrestler,” Hill said.

Daniel Dunlop at 112 pounds finished the tournament in fourth place. Hill said Dunlop wrestled with a bad thumb during the tournament went 3 -2 for the day.

“He has shown us really what he is made of,” noted Hill.

The Warriors were without Clayton Trimble this weekend because of a hand injury but Hill expects him back in competition after the holiday break.

The Warriors host a home dual on Thursday before the Christmas break.
