POLSON — Children’s playhouses made by local builders went on the auction block at Mission Bay Preserve on July 9 as a fundraiser to refurbish the nursery at St. Joseph Medical Center.

St. Joe's has the only two obstetrician/gynecologists in the valle,y according to St. Joseph Foundation Director Susan Klein, so many Mission Valley babies spend their first hours there.

Titled Street of Dreams, the fundraiser netted $22,000 for the newborns and showcased the talents of local contractors. A crowd of about 200 enjoyed a beautiful summer evening, Klein said.

Builders who designed and built playhouses were Gallatin Construction, Hu Beaver Builder, Marsh Creek Construction, Roy Sturm Construction and Traditional Homes.

Roy Sturm came up with a Who House, inspired by the Dr. Seuss book, “Horton Hears a Who.” The pale blue playhouse had curved and crooked sides.

Sturm’s son did not believe his dad would every build anything that wasn’t square, plumb and straight. Sturm’s wife Jeri noted the contractor said it took twice as long and was harder to build crooked.

Klein said one addition will be new bassinets for the nursery. They’ll be installed as quickly as they can be ordered.
