CHARLO — The Charlo Vikings secured a homecoming win last Friday, dominating the Arlee Warriors 54-13.

Head Coach Mike Krahn commented that his team came out ready to play from the beginning.

“We played focused and as a team,” Krahn said. “We limited our mistakes this week and had no turnovers, while causing three.”

Early in the first quarter, Charlo jumped out to a 6-0 lead after Jacen Petersen ran in a 57-yard touchdown. Then Tra Ludeman scored a 77-yard touchdown and Webb O’Neill got the extra points to put the Vikings up 14-0.

Arlee’s Justin Adams gave the Warriors three points with a kick at around the 24-yard line to make the score 14-3.

With 1:11 left in the first, O’Neill intercepted an Arlee pass on the 34-yard line, which resulted in another Viking touchdown from Stephen Delaney to make it 20-3.

Adams booted another field goal to inch Arlee closer, staying at 20-6 to end the first.

In the second quarter, Charlo scored yet another touchdown from Delaney and the extra two points from Petersen to bring the score to 28-6. Petersen then scored a touchdown to mark the half at 34-6.

With the same focus they started the game, the Vikings came into the second half scoring with a touchdown from Ludeman and the extra points from Delaney, 42-6.

The Vikings continued to pull away from the Warriors, as Delaney picked off an Arlee pass and scored a touchdown to put them comfortably ahead 48-6.

Warriors’ Brady Potts stopped the extra points run and the third quarter ended 48-6.

In the fourth, the Vikings continued their big touchdown runs as Petersen ran a 73-yard touchdown to make the score 54-6.

But the Warriors made a late game offensive gain when Riley Rogers scored a touchdown with 5:36 left in the game. Adams again connected for the Warriors and contributed another point and the score was 54-13. Time ran out as the Warriors tried to score again and fumbled with 1:30. Arlee never regained possession of the ball keeping the final score 54-13.

Charlo held Arlee to 205 total yards on offense and had 28 rushes for 366 yards and nine of 16 passing for 99 yards.

“(The) defensive front played very well and was the key to shutting down Arlee’s rushing game,” Krahn said. “(Our) defensive backs held Arlee to one completion on 14 attempts.” Krahn praised defensive players Peter DuMont, Cody Kobilansky, Danny Blevins and Petersen.

“Offensively we used spread offense to maximize team speed and had several big touchdown runs,” Krahn said. “We will continue to work on fundamentals and polishing up our game.

The Vikings travel to Philipsburg and Arlee faces Darby at home Friday.
