FLATHEAD LAKE — The March monthly report for the Seli’š Ksanka Qlispe’ Hydroelectric Project Operation for Flathead Lake showed that February was very cold and wet in the Flathead Basin. Precipitation accumulation was 6.41 inches, 246 percent of normal and temperatures were 1.8 degrees colder than normal.

February’s water supply into the Flathead was 150 percent of average as compared to historical data from 1981-2010. March’s water supply forecast is currently 98 percent of normal. The current Snow Water Equivalent (SWE) for the Flathead is 99 percent of normal.

February’s ending elevation was 2,884.5 feet. Current flow out of the dam is 8,300 cubic feet per second. By the end of March, EKI will draft the lake another foot for winter flood risk management. Refill of the lake will commence in mid-April.
