News from the Lake County Pachyderm Club
POLSON — Tom Bansak, aquatic ecologist and Assistant Director at the Flathead Lake Biological Station, will be the featured speaker at the Friday, March 10 meeting of the Lake County Pachyderm Club beginning at noon at the Polson Rural Fire Department Building on Regatta Road, Polson.
The title of his talk is “Shrimp, Salmon, Trout and Mussels: Invasive Seafood Chowder in Flathead Lake.” Since its founding, FLBS has served as the “Sentinel of Flathead Lake” monitoring water quality and ecological conditions. Although Flathead Lake’s water quality is still some of the finest in the world, its ecological community has been greatly altered through both intentional and unintentional species introductions. The latest species threatening to change Flathead Lake forever are invasive mussels that were recently detected elsewhere in Montana.
Come to hear about the changes that have occurred in Flathead Lake over the last 100-plus years, and what we can do to prevent the mussels from getting here and changing it forever.
