Warriors become back-to-back divisional champions

BUTTE — For the second year in a row, the Arlee Warriors are headed back to the Class C Championship Tournament as the Western C Divisional Champions.
And they defeated the Manhattan Christian Eagles during the Western C Divisional Tournament, held at the Maroon Activities Center on Saturday evening.
The Warriors led the Eagles 41-34 at the half and used a 27-19 run in the third quarter to pull away for the 85- 67 championship victory. Junior Phillip Malatare led the Warriors in double figures with a game-high of 26 points. Will Mesteth scored 18 points, Tyler Tanner had 15 points, and Alex Moran added 13 more points.
The Warriors made their way through the brackets to the championship game on Thursday by routing Gardiner 95-56 and on Friday topping Ennis 71- 64.
In the Gardiner game, Malatare scored a gamehigh of 27 points and Mesteth followed up with 20 more. Against Ennis, Tanner scored a game-high of 24 points for the Warriors.
The Warriors will head to Bozeman March 9-11 to continue their quest for the State Class C Championship title.
On the girl’s side of the bracket, the Scarlets advanced to the championship round on Saturday by besting White Sulphur springs 54-32 on Thursday and Seeley-Swan 40-32 on Friday.
In both games, Alyssia Vanderburg led the Scarlets with game-high scoring efforts of 20 and 16 points.
On Saturday, the Scarlets fell 43-39 to undefeated Twin Bridges in the championship game. In the loss, Vanderburg scored a team high of 11 points, and Nellie Desjarlais followed up with 10 more. As the runner- up team, the Scarlets will head to Belgrade on Thursday to compete in the State Class C Championship tournament.
