RONAN – The Ronan Middle School Robotics students came back from their state competition with an award.
The students competed at the First Lego League state meet earlier this month, hosted by Montana State University.
The Mission Mountain Hoggers, a group with the robotics team, were recognized at the event with a second place Inspirational Award.
“The award is for their ability to work as a team and their enthusiasm during the competition,” said Brian Youngren, RMS teacher and project coach. He said teams Ronan Rush and Panda Scheme, teams with the RMS Robotics club, also competed well. The competition involves real-world science and technology challenges built on the academic disciplines of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
“The challenge consisted of programming a robot designed to finish missions on a filed mat along with researching and identifying a solution to a problem,” he said. “The students then had to present their solution to a panel of judges.”
Team Ronan Rush included Xavier Nolen, Trevor Bartel, Remington Bell, Sherman Violette, Conner Cornwell, Vicente Ortega, Dylan Kelch, Payton Cates, Nicholas Dresen, and Dylan Sevier.
Mission Mountain Hoggers included Alana Earthboy, Lindsey Brooks, Madeline McCrea, Hallie Moss, Mossy Kauly, Maggi Lake, Kiana King, Skyler Shima, and Oryssa Hall.
Team Panda Scheme included Chase Kintz, Erik Betwieser, Jayden Brooks, and Noah Sander.
