POLSON — The playground at Boettcher Park is quiet during school months, but summer is coming and the swings, merry-go-round and jungle gym will be loaded with children. And this year the playground will be getting a makeover, thanks to local philanthropist Paul McCann. McCann donated $25,000 to the City of Polson Parks Department, specifically to refurbish Boettcher Park.
McCann, his son Tim and Parks Superintendent Karen Sargeant met at Boettcher Park on May 16 to finalize the donation.
Tim credited Ron Melvin, former City of Polson building inspector, with suggesting the parks department when he called to ask which department could use some money.
Sargeant said the parks department was grateful for the donation and planned to buy some toddler swings, an Americans with Disabilities Act swing and maybe a tire swing.
In order to not close the playground during peak use months, Sargeant said park staff will wait until fall to remove the gravel and cover the playground with Sof’Fall engineered wood product, which is already in use at Riverside Park.
