POLSON – The Polson Schools Board of Trustees last week voted to move forward on a three-year contract with Superintendent Rex Weltz. The vote was unanimous to begin negotiations with Weltz.
The board also voted to remove “interim” from his title. Weltz is in his first year as superintendent, taking over for Linda Reksten. He previously was principal at Polson High School for four years.
Board Chair Caroline Mc-Donald said Weltz has a “very positive educational vision for moving forward.”
After the meeting, Weltz said he will begin negotiations with a three-person contract committee. He said the process should not be arduous.
“As an interim, there’s a lot of ‘what if.’ Now it’s easier to start planning for the future,” he said, adding, “I’m excited for our community, our district and myself in terms of consistency.”
Weltz said he was particularly pleased with Polson Middle School’s leadership team.
PMS teacher Nicole Camel and a number of her students gave a presentation at the Jan. 17 board meeting about students who had visited patients at the Otto Klein Cancer Center at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center and raked leaves for area residents, among other activities.
Business manager Pamela Clary noted that three board positions will be coming up for election on May 2, which will be only mail-in balloting. Candidates need to file paperwork by March 23, she said. The open seats are currently filled by McDonald, Chanel Lake and Shannon Bojorquez.
The board’s next meeting will be at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 6 in the District Office.
