LAKE COUNTY — Your Life Matters, a local group bringing suicide awareness and mental health education to local communities, is offering two $1,000 scholarships to local students.
Scholarship money was raised through the annual Light the Night run on Oct. 30, 2016.
Eligible student applicants must be high school seniors that attend public, private or homeschool in Lake County. Preference will be given to students pursuing careers in the mental health field, but any student is eligible. There are no minimum GPA requirements.
Applicants must submit a 500-1,000 word essay on how suicide/mental health as affected them. Also submit grade transcripts; a resume with classes, activities, honors, etc.; and three non-family references, with only one coming from school faculty or administration. Student scholarship winners must submit college transcripts after their first semester of college. Scholarships will go directly to financial aid for tuition, books, housing, etc.
The application deadline is March 16, 2017. Turn completed applications in to a high school counselor or scholarship coordinator.
