RONAN - The Maidens exploded for 10 runs in the bottom of the second against Anaconda Friday as Ronan picked up a 21-6 win to improve to 2-6.

Turquoise Haggard set the tone early as she sent the ball past the fence to begin the Ronan scoring frenzy. Anaconda pitcher Courtney Moodry hit a wall as she struggled to throw from the circle and was eventually replaced during the middle of the second inning by Karli King. It was already too late, however, as the Maidens had successfully built a comfortable 8-1 lead and weren’t going to let it go.

The Maidens continued to score runs and hit well in the second inning as Payge Delaurenti’s single drove in two RBIs, and Whisper Ivins hit a double.

Anaconda went scoreless until the Copperheads finally found offense in the fourth, scoring four runs. By that point, however, the Maidens had already put the game away by building a 16-5 advantage. The game was called in the fifth, due to the 10-run margin rule.

Alaina Madsen led the Maidens at the plate, hitting three doubles and collecting two RBI. Delaurenti, Marissa McCrea, and Lindsay Clairmont each added a pair of hits.

Bethany Colman picked up the win in the circle, improving to 2-6.

King led Anaconda at the, driving home three RBI, and hitting 1-3. Jeanna Brunell, Hannah Anderson, Lauren Bolton, and Abbi Stanberry all finished the game with one hit each.

The Maidens also traveled to Libby for a Northwestern A contest Tuesday. Ronan went scoreless through the first three innings, allowing the Loggers to build a 5-0 lead by the top of the fourth.

Alysha Martin went 3-4, including a pair of home runs, to help her team pull away for a 9-6 victory in Libby.

The Maidens were able to put up four runs during the top of the fifth to come within two runs, but Libby fought back with an additional two runs in the bottom of the inning to stretch the lead back out.

One run in the top of the seventh just wasn’t enough for the Maidens as they continue to struggle early this season.

Alex Dulmes led Ronan at bat, hitting 3-3 with three RBI. Colman, Katie Andrews, and Ashleigh Lynch all finished with a pair of hits.

Martin led Libby at the plate while Lexie Hageness, Taylor Armstrong, and Brooke Rosling added a pair of hits each.
