There are some changes at Area VI Agency on Aging. The Case Management Team will still be serving Medicaid Waiver clients; however, as of Jan. 1, they will be working through Benefis Spectrum and will be housed in a different location. The Area VI offices will remain in the Salish building at 110 Main St., Suite No. 5 in Polson. The building is undergoing some extensive renovations, and it may look inaccessible at times, but you will still be able to take the elevator up to the second floor office, and of course our phones are still in operation.
The following services for Area VI counties can be reached at 1-800-551-3191 or 883-7284.
The Foster Grandparent Program places seniors in positions helping with children at many locations such as childcare centers, preschools and schools throughout our Area. There is a small stipend for these positions. The Long Term Care Ombudsman Program provides education, assistance and advocacy to long term care residents helping to ensure dignity and quality of life. The Retired Senior Volunteer Program connects seniors with volunteer positions in many communities which match their skills and preferences to where they are needed.
The State Health Insurance Assistance Program provides free, non-biased information and help with the mysteries of Medicare. The Senior Medicare Patrol helps guard against Medicare fraud, waste, and abuse by helping people understand and monitor their medical bills and Medicare summary notices. We also provide information and assistance, connecting people with local resources.
The Nutrition Program assists and monitors the Nutrition Centers in their congregate and home-delivered meal programs in the four counties and the Flathead Reservation. The Area VI Agency on Aging also hosts the Commodity Supplemental Food Program, improving the health of seniors and children by supplementing their diets with nutritious agricultural commodities.
We’d like to be sure you’re aware that during the period of Jan. 1 through Feb. 14, those who are in a Medicare Advantage Plan are allowed to disenroll and go back to original Medicare with a Prescription Drug Plan.
