POLSON — The city responded to a water main break on Seventh Street at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, and had the line repaired in about three hours. Ash Walker, the city’s assistant superintendent for water and sewer, said an 8-inch cast iron water line burst on Seventh Street between Seventh and 11th Avenues.
Below-freezing temperatures and a lack of snow to insulate the ground likely led to the pipe bursting, he said. “We’ve been dealing with some pretty frigid weather and only 2-3 inches of snow,” he said Thursday, adding that frost pushes down on the ground and causes it to heave. The ground moving likely contributed to or caused the break, he said. Five city employees from the water and sewer department worked on the repair, he said.
