Pearl Harbor’s 75th anniversary commemorated News from Miracle of America Museum
POLSON — President Roosevelt called Dec. 7, 1941, “A day that will live in infamy.” “Remember Pearl Harbor” was the war cry that stirred men’s (and women’s) souls and awakened a “sleeping giant.”
The Miracle of America Museum, remembers that fateful day every day with it’s permanent and poignant exhibits, but on the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, the public is invited to a free program 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7.
Beginning in the public meeting room there will be the showing of a DVD slideshow and song presentation of Montana’s own Marshall Catch, “The Ballad of the USS Arizona.” We will then proceed to the WW II section of the museum to view the special tribute wall, with emphasis on David Smart, a Polson veteran, whose remains still lie entombed in the hold of the Arizona. Related period memorabilia such as an internment and other war bond posters, weapons, souvenir surrender document, etc. are also on exhibit.
Back in the meeting room, the classic and award winning movie, “TORA! TORA! TORA!” will be shown. Treats are welcome. Due to the length of the evening program, (approximately 3 hours), we would like to begin the evening’s program promptly at 6 p.m. Teachers are encouraged to give extra credit to attending students who write a special report about the evening.
