News from the Lake County Sheriff
PABLO — At approximately 4:10 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, Lake County Dispatch received multiple 911 calls from the Northwood Trailer Park in Pablo, reporting that a dark colored SUV had just run over a 3-year-old child, causing the child's death. The SUV fled the scene and was reportedly driving recklessly.
Flathead Tribal Police, Lake County Sheriff's Deputies, and Montana Highway Patrol all responded to the incident. A Montana Highway Patrol Trooper located the suspect vehicle a short time later in the Ronan area, and the driver was arrested.
The driver, identified as 17 year old Chasen Curley, is in custody and has been cited by Montana Highway Patrol for Negligent Homicide and for Failure to Remain at the Scene of a Death or Serious Bodily Injury.
The deceased child is identified as Phillip Shourds, Jr.
Montana Highway Patrol and the Lake County Sheriff's Office Coroner Division are still investigating the incident.
