KALISPELL – June 6 was a rough day for the Mission Valley Mariners, as they dropped an early lead to fall to the AA Kalispell Lakers, 13-8. The Mariners wasted no time grabbing a quick lead as they jumped to 7-0 during the first two innings.

Kalispell didn’t lay down, and cut the deficit to two runs during the bottom of the second.

The Mariners went cold at bat after scoring their final run in the top of the third.

The Lakers took advantage, getting their stroke back in the fifth, as they put up a pair of runs to close the gap to one. The Kalispell team continued to rip through Josh Rustad’s pitching in the sixth, taking an 11-8 lead, after scoring four more runs.

Sidney Schenck picked up the win on the mound, downing Rustad.

For the Mariners, Jack Humphreys finished the game with a double and two RBIs, while teammates Dalton Molhzon and Rustad both had two hits. Jacob Yound, Justin Evertz, Chris Clary and Rustad also drove in runs during the loss.

Michael O’Connell went 5 for 5, with four doubles and four RBIs to lead the Lakers. Sean O’Connell, Joe Pistorese and Nate Bengston each finished with two RBIs.

The Mariners were scheduled to play the Kootenai Valley Rangers June 11, but the game was rained out.

The Mariners will head to the Maybelle Arthur tournament in Dillon June 16-19, and will host the Bitterroot Bucs June 20.
