POLSON – The Polson Lady Pirate basketball team dropped its second loss of the season last week, falling to Kalispell Flathead at home before picking up a win at Whitefish Jan. 21.
Lady Pirates senior Riley Kenney continues to thrive on the court, scoring a game-high 25 against Flathead and 19 against Whitefish.
Against Flathead, Polson fell behind in the first quarter, but rallied in the second frame to lead 26-19 at halftime.
Polson returned to the court a little sluggish, allowing Flathead to go on an 18-6 run to regain a 37-32 lead entering the fourth quarter. Flathead continued to lead late and held Polson to only 12 points, giving Flathead the 50-43 win.
Polson was led by Kenney’s 25 points, while Mariah Hamel and Jordan Quinn added four.
Flathead was led by Emma Andrews’ 22 points. Teammate Jenessa Heine put up 10, while Tess Brenneman added eight.
On Saturday, the Lady Pirates got back on track with a crushing victory over the Whitefish Lady Bulldogs on the road, winning 69-18. Kenney’s 19 points paced Polson, while Anna DiGiallonardo put up 10.
Polson led 39-11 at the half and held the Lady Bulldogs to only seven points in the third and no points in the fourth.
Whitefish was led by Taylor Havens and Simone Craft, who scored five points each.
The loss moved Whitefish to 1-10, while Polson improved to 8-2.
Polson plays Ronan Jan. 24 and travels to Stevensville Jan. 26.
