ARLEE — Sometimes looks can be deceiving. The Warriors looked good Friday as they jumped out to a 6-1 lead, causing the Superior Bobcats to call a timeout with 3:53 left in the first quarter. But the quick break was enough to give the Bobcats the composure they needed to outscore the Warriors in the next three quarters and pull out the win 41-23 in Arlee.

Heading into halftime, the score was a low 15-14 with the Bobcats on top. Arlee had a chance to add three more points to the score with 2.2 seconds left in the first half when Dominic Burland was fouled attempting a half-court shot. But momentum was not on the Warriors’ side, as all three free throws rattled out and both teams retired at the half.

In the third quarter, Superior went on a scoring frenzy 16-7 in the third and 10-2 in the final quarter to win.

Superior’s Jarrod Tippens scored a game-high 12 points, with two 3-pointers in the third.

Sam Nelson paced the Warriors with seven points.

“You’re going to have nights like this … it’s part of rebuilding” said head coach Dustin Keltner. “Superior is a quality team.”

On Jan. 21, the Warriors visited Hot Springs and returned with a 57-38 victory.

Christian Haynes lit up the scoreboard with 16 points. Sam Nelson scored six of his nine in the first quarter as Arlee took an early command over Hot Springs, 14-7.

The Warriors dominated the rest of the game as well, taking the game by 19 points.

Arlee (3-4, 5-6) stays home this week, playing Loyola Jan. 26 and St. Regis Jan. 28.
