For the third year in a row, Bishop Insurance has helped local food banks stock up. This year the business contributed 4,000 pounds of food and $330 to both Polson Loaves & Fishes and The Bread Basket in Ronan.
Employees solicit the help of customers, friends and the community to gather items. The winner of the friendly competition between the two offices is treated to lunch by Bishop Insurance.
“We figure the real winners are the food banks,” Debbie Vassar, operations manager said.
In 2016 the Polson office collected 2,284 pounds of food and the Ronan office collected 1,666 pounds of food, for a total of 3,950 pounds.
“Every year we have managed to make it bigger and better,” Vassar said.
The money comes from the company’s referral program. Each time a customer recommends Bishop Insurance, $20 goes in the pot. Every quarter the company donates those earnings to a local nonprofit. The third quarter is designated for local food pantries, which works well as this typically falls during the month that they receive matching funds, according to Vassar.
