Hoax utility website meant to deceive Polson residents

POLSON — A fraudulent billing website is currently online designed to deceive Polson residents into paying their utility bills using a hoax website not affiliated with the City of Polson. Although the City does accept online payments, bills paid on the hoax website are not deposited with the City of Polson. The additional links on the website appear to be viruses designed to cause problems on the unsuspecting user’s computer.
“We found the bogus website by accident on doxo.com,” Polson City Clerk Cora Pritt said. “It looked legitimate but said, ‘City of Polson, Billings, Montana. Pay your bill here.’ It was pretty astonishing.”
