ARLEE – The Scarlets played a closegame against the Plains Trotters on Sept. 20 but didn’t manage to push ahead.

“It’s been a good season so far,” Senior Bryndle Goyins said. “We’ve only lost to Plains, our rivals.”

Goyins has played volleyball every year since junior high.

“I really love the sport,” she said. “I really like it when the team is working together and we get a set close to the net.”

In the first game, Plains had a fivepoint lead, 25-20. The Trotters maintained their edge in the second contest 25-18. Arlee gained momentum and won the third round 25-23. The fourth set was a close back and fourth push, but the Trotters held it a few points ahead, 24-21, winning the match 3-1.

“The last couple of points were the most exciting,” she said. “It got intense.”

Head Coach Lonnie Morin was proud of the team.

“We need to read the ball, read the hitter, and work on net play,” she said. “Other than that, they scrambled to the ball and did everything they could. They were error-free and able to get the ball over.”

Goyins lead with eight kills, Carly Hergett made six, and Abby Yocum had five. In digs, Mikayla Rieken lead with 14, Goyins 11, and Hergett six. Ashley Tanner had five aces, Hergett had four, and Rieken made three.

The Scarlets’ homecoming game is against Two Eagle River on Thursday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. The homecoming parade is on Friday at 4:45 p.m.
