HELENA — Superintendent of Public Instruction Denise Juneau announced that the United States Senate Youth Program is now seeking applicants for the program’s 55th annual Washington Week.
Each year, two Montana high school students are selected by Superintendent Juneau to spend an all-expense paid week in Washington, D.C. learning about the importance of our democracy and civic engagement. Those students also receive a $10,000 scholarship to the college of their choice.
“Each year, I’m honored to select two of Montana’s future leaders to represent our state in Washington, D.C.,” Superintendent Juneau said. “These juniors and seniors are outstanding students, community members and leaders who are interested in pursuing a career in public service.”
The United States Senate Youth Program was established by the Senate in 1962 and is funded by The Hearst Foundations. Former Montana Senator Mike Mansfield was one of the original sponsors of the senate resolution meant to increase civic participation among young Americans.
Superintendent Juneau will select two students in mid-December. The deadline to apply is Oct. 3, 2016. For more information, interested students should contact their high school principal or,Tobie Liedes, Program Coordinator, Montana Office of Public Instruction at 406- 444-2417 or email
