POLSON — The Lake County Commissioners and Health Board have appointed Dr. Nichole McKinsey as Lake County Health Officer effective August 31, 2016.
Under administrative and policy direction of the Board of Health, Dr. McKinsey performs consultative and professional health duties for the maintenance of the County Health Department including the Health Services and Environmental Health Programs.
She reports to the Board of Health regarding duties relating to the maintenance of the County Health Department, encompassing programs in human and environmental health services.
Dr. McKinsey works closely with federal, state and local officials, agencies, community health providers, and the public to ensure program efficiency and compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
She works with the Health Department to assess community public health needs, and assists with planning for supportive health services and programs to fit those needs.
Dr. McKinsey assists with the interpretation and enforcement of health codes, standards, practices and procedures.
She promotes community interests in and understanding of public health programs and services and works cooperatively with other health care providers to control the spread of disease.
She may perform as a medical doctor toward the promotion and maintenance of individual, group and community health.
Dr. McKinsey will perform all other duties that must be performed by a Health Officer as delegated, ordered, or assigned by the Board of Health or in accordance with Montana Law.
Dr. McKinsey’s term as Lake County Health Officer extends until Aug. 31, 2018. Dr. McKinsey is a family practice provider at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center. She joined the staff in August 2015.
In addition to her training as a Family Medicine physician, Dr. McKinsey also has experience in International Medicine, a discipline that focuses largely on the treatment of communicable diseases such as tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS, as well as tropical diseases such as malaria. She has traveled to Tanzania, Kenya, and India to provide medical care to the underserved.
