PABLO — The Crown of the Continent Guitar Foundation announced today that four students at Salish Kootenai College in Pablo have been awarded scholarships through the college foundation to attend this summer’s Crown Guitar Workshop, Aug. 28 to Sept. 4 at Flathead Lake Lodge in Bigfork. The workshop scholarship provides a rare opportunity to learn from nationally and internationally renowned guitar artists and master teachers in seven guitar genres: jazz, classic rock, blues, classical, singer-songwriter, acoustic and beginner. Each SKCF scholarship is valued at $5,000.

The students will spend seven days immersing themselves in the guitar, learning technique, eating dinner and talking shop with the pros. Then each night they will enjoy some of the most awe-inspiring guitar music on the planet at the Crown Guitar Festival that features a different artist backed up by a stellar rhythm band.

The awardees include Jordan Albert, a singer/songwriter from Ronan who is a second time scholarship recipient and an energetic performer; Kelsey Lynn Fowler, a singer and songwriter from Polson who specializes in pop styles; Jorren Geis of Pablo, who is an active performer and guitar luthier who has performed in Hawaii; and Nick Adamson, a singer/ songwriter from Pablo who is interested in rock and alternative rock styles.

Artists in Residence scheduled to teach at the workshop and perform in five Festival concerts during the week include rock/songwriter legend Jim Messina of Buffalo Springfield, Poco, and Loggins and Messina fame; Brent Mason, a Nashville session guitarist who is one of the most recorded guitarists in history; Liz Longley, a rising country star; Punch Brothers guitarist Chris Eldridge; Gypsy Jazz artist Gonzalo Bergara; SoloDuo, a classical guitar duo from Italy; jazz funk legend Lee Ritenour; Dweezil Zappa, a Grammy awarded rocker who is the son of Frank Zappa; jazz fusion prodigy Julian Lage; rocker Shane Theriot, a Grammy- awarded producer of the television music show “Live from Daryl’s House”; and Steely Dan guitarist and music director Jon Herington.
