News from BillieLee Project Consulting

POLSON — The Lake County Commission has retained BillieLee Project Consulting to help them determine if the citizens and businesses of Polson and Lake County think that the Commissioners should further consider requests to build a multi-purpose type of event/community center at the Polson Fairgrounds.

The question being asked by the Lake County Commission: Is there public interest and support for building a multi-purpose/event and community center at the site of the polson fairgrounds? If so, for what purposes?

The idea has been tossed around for many years, but now, the Commission wants to know if steps should be taken to make it a reality. The first step in completing this Feasibility Study is an on-line survey now being conducted to determine that interest. Among other things, the survey asks if you are responding as an individual, a business or an organization. (You can complete the survey as one or the other, and if responding in multiple categories, open the survey more than once.)

Questions include whether or not you think such a facility is needed; if so, what types of activities should be planned for the center; should it be seasonal or year-round; and ideas about size. Suggestions so far include: a concert amphitheater; including a seasonal ice-hockey rink; hosting large (300 plus) dinner and wedding events; catering kitchen; indoor car and/or boats shows. There is also space to indicate desired improvements to the current rodeo grounds, if needed.

Depending on the response and IF there is interest demonstrated, the Commissioners may move to the next step, which would be to develop a preliminary architectural and engineering plan to determine design parameters and costs of construction. In addition to getting public input relative to demand and use of the Center, the Consultant is also charged with:

1. Completing an analysis of local market conditions that assist the Commission in defining the needs for such a center.

2. Completing a comparative and competitive market analysis identifying both local venues and competitive venues in similar facilities.

3. Providing an initial engineering analysis of the site as to its overall capacity to have such a center located on it and what long-term design considerations would need to be addressed relative to infrastructure, access, site locations, etc. The final report is due to the Commission on October 31. The Survey completion is due by August 26. You can access the survey on-line at http://www.monkeysurvey.com/r/polsonfairgroundssurvey.
