Editor,

We live in such an amazing community and are so grateful to those friends, family and businesses who joined us for our annual Bowl for Kids’ Sake. Doing good while having fun is a great combination. This annual fundraiser for Big Brothers and Big Sisters helps us to continue to serve the youth in our community.

Our mission is to help children reach their potential through professionally supported, one-to-one relationships with mentors that have a measurable impact on youth. Big Brothers Big Sisters is a “Best Practice” prevention program proven to impact a broad spectrum of risk factors (i.e. delinquency, alcohol, tobacco and drug use, teen pregnancy, school drop out) while simultaneously helping children reach their highest potential.

Here are just a few results of the impact our program has on the children we serve:
• 46 percent less likely to begin using illegal drugs
• 27 percent less likely to begin using alcohol
• 52 percent less likely to skip school
• 37 percent less likely to skip a class
• Increased confidence in overall school performance
• one-third less likely to engage in physical altercations
• improved relations with family members

Thanks to the interest and support of our community, we have experienced a 34 percent overall growth in our program over the past year. Community support helps us continue our important mission of helping local children succeed in school and in life.
