POLSON — On Saturday, Aug. 6, cooks from throughout the area will gather at the Kwa- TaqNuk Resort on Flathead Lake to compete in the eighth annual Smokin’ On The Water.
Starting early in the morning, cooking teams will be applying that special rub and mixing that special sauce to tempt the taste buds of the five judges.
Smokin’ On The Water will open to the public at 11 a.m. and run until 6 p.m. The family event will also feature vendors, children’s activities and live music.
Cooks can compete in any or all of five categories: chicken, pork, beef, sauce and the ever-popular open category in which anything is eligible including fish, goat, lamb or even nachos. Judging criteria will include appearance, taste and tenderness/texture. Cash prizes and trophies will be awarded in all categories.
Registration fee is $100, but the Polson Chamber of Commerce is waiving the fee for any non-profit group that would like to assemble a cooking team. Registration forms for the competition are available from the Polson Chamber of Commerce and online. Go to www. polsonchamber.com and click on the event calendar. All forms are available on the Smokin’ on the Water listing. Deadline for registration is Aug. 5. Vendor registration forms are also available online.
