RONAN — Ronan School Board trustees accepted the retirement resignation of District No. 30 Superintendent Andy Holmlund at a special meeting held Thursday, July 7. Holmlund, who attended Ronan schools from kindergarten through 12th grade, said his past 13 years serving Ronan as superintendent have been “absolutely wonderful. I wanted to go out on top, and felt I had accomplished that. I’ve done everything I could do.”
Holmlund is hoping to spend summertime on the boat with his family, but has also accepted a CEO position at Montana Unified School Trust, a statewide health insurance company, where he can still serve schools teachers and trustees.
“There’s more out there in this world,” he said. “You can’t be afraid to close a door and open another one.” When Holmlund starts his new job Aug. 1, he’ll be commuting back and forth to Helena, and work with 17 employees rather than 350. Holmlund will still be living in Ronan and his children will remain in the Ronan School District.
“Ronan is home, and will always remain home,” he said. “I am not going away.”
Mark Johnston, Ronan Middle School Principal, will be the interim superintendent.
