News from the SKC Powwow Committee
PABLO — The Salish Kootenai College Powwow Committee would like to thank everyone who attended our SKC Powwow and Graduate Honoring that was held on May 13-14 at the Joe McDonald Health and Fitness Center. Our staff worked hard to make this year’s event one of the most successful to date. The powwow on the SKC campus is in its fourth year of formation and was originally the Graduation Powwow.
We very much appreciated and would like to say a big thank you for a job well done to our Head Man Dancer, Cedric Earthboy and to our Head Woman Dancer, ShiNaasha Pete, who both represented the college very well this year. We were also excited as well as very fortunate to have all the individuals, departments put in a lot of their time and hard work to make this event the huge success that it was. A special thank you goes out to our emcee, Mr. Dave Brown Eagle of Spokane, Washington, for making the powwow run smoothly, as well to A.J. McDonald of St. Ignatius for running the floor and to the Warrior Society and Gary Adolph for providing the flags.
This year’s powwow had 15 drums and more than160 contest dancers as well as 10 vendors on site. SKC was rewarded with the fact that people from the community and powwow participants commented on what a well-run celebration it was.
In closing, the committee would like to thank and recognize these SKC, business and community sponsors for their time and donations: Salish and Kootenai College Administration, Dr. Sandra Boham, Dr. Russell Boham, SKC Student Senate, KwaTaqNuk Resort and Casino, 4B’s Restaurant, SKC Foundation, TRiO Student Support Services, Joe’s Jiffy Stop, Kootenai Tribe of Idaho, Dr. Joe McDonald, Tracie McDonald, SKC Dental Department, Teen Parent Assist Program, Ruth Swaney and family and Eagle Bank.
SKC hopes to see everyone again next year and wishes everyone a happy, safe and fun summer ahead.
