Polson High School made a good showing at the Western State Music Festival in Helena on May 4 and 5. PHS choral director Chris Bumgarner and PHS band director Rich Sawyer were pleased with PHS students.
“I usually tell my students to focus on the comments given by the adjudicators so we can work to improve. But this was the most unusual State Music Festival I have ever experienced because every Polson vocal entry received a Superior (Division I) rating. ... The credit really goes to the students and shows that hard work, perseverance and dedication pays off in this kind of reward,” Bumgarner said.
Sawyer added, “State festival was a great opportunity for our students to hear new approaches to playing techniques, and it was a great learning experience for us.”
