Sixteen Two Eagle River School students walked the stage to receive their diplomas as they became the graduating class of 2016. In their caps and gowns, the students walked across the gym floor for the last time. Family, friends and teachers stood proudly and gave the high school graduates one last round of applause as they left the building.
“I see amazing talent, a lot of promise and pure joy coming from these students,” Salish Kootenai College Transition Coach Selina Kenmille said. “This class has all the potential to become who they want to be in life.”
As community members, family and friends stood in line to shake hands and congratulate the graduates, twin brothers Dante and Darius McDougall reminisced about their four years at Two Eagle River School.
“This class is like a family,” Dante said. “We have been through everything together.”
Both the brothers will be attending Salish Kootenai College in the fall to continue their education.
“I don’t know what I would have done without the teachers and staff that helped me graduate,” Darius said.
Also attending SKC is Julian Cut Finger, who will be pursuing a Wildlife and Fisheries degree. Cut Finger found success on the basketball court during his high school career and is hopeful that transitions into his future.
“I am excited for my future,” Cut Finger said. “I want to go on to have many accomplishments and be somebody.”
Classmate Lynsey Rae American Horse is also looking toward a bright future.
“I am thankful for my teachers and everyone who has motivated me to keep going,” Lynsey said. She will be attending SKC to pursue social work. “I have a lot of great memories with this class and I am sure there will be more to come.”
Lynsey, along with her classmates, walked outside with their beaded mortarboards on their heads, diplomas in their hands and smiles on their faces. Kenmille was waiting for them to give them all one last hug and treat.
“I am looking forward to watching them prosper in life and becoming positive role models for future Two Eagle River graduates,” Kenmille said. “These kids have grown so much in their four years of high school and I am sure they will continue to do that.”
The 16 grads include: Lynsey Rae American Horse, Gabriell Elizabeth Big Beaver, Julian Thomas Cut Finger, Jaylen Troy Ducharme, Katakiykam Jacinda Kenmille, Angel Lynn Malatare, Rosendo Eracho Martinez, Jeri Francis Matt, Shadow Destiny Matt, Dante Robert McDougall, Darius Samuel McDougall, Misty Nichole Mendoza, Tyra Rose Michel, Matilda Maxine Pablo, Payton Lashae Sorrell and Casadi Johana Wunderlich.
