POLSON — For recyclers and people who want to recycle, Polson now has a rcycling station. No more trips to the Transfer Station to drop off recyclables for Polson residents.
Lake County Commissioners Paddy Trusler, Polson Mayor Pat DeVries, Mark Nelson, Lake County Solid Waste and Recyling Manager, and Karen Sargeant, Polson Parks Superintendent opened the new recycling station May 16.
The shiny green recycling bins are located near the skate park off Seventh Avenue West. There are slots for flattened cardboard; mixed paper including magazines, phonebooks and newspapers; aluminum cans; tin cans; No. 1 plastic bottles (no containers); No. 2 plastic bottles (no containers); and No. 2 clear milk jugs. Nelson noted that all bottles and cans should have the lids removed, be rinsed clean and smashed.
Mixed plastics, such as berry baskets and margarine tubs, should go to the Transfer Station. In addition to the Polson location, recycling stations have been installed on the Salish Kootenai College campus and in Ronan by Harvest Foods.
The Polson station will be fenced, Sargeant said, and the fence should be up in three weeks.
