POLSON – The Polson girls’ soccer team continues to play well as they ended their regular season with big wins over Bigfork and Libby. On Thursday, the Lady Pirates traveled to Bigfork, where Madeline Hewston led all scorers with three goals while Sarah Howell added another score, rolling Polson to a 4-0 win.

With the win, the Lady Pirates secured their No. 3 Northern conference seed in the state playoffs beginning this week.

Hewston scored in the 22, 65 and 72-minute marks, while Howell’s goal came at 27 minutes in.

Makenzie Wegner received Bigfork’s Sportsmanship award for outstanding play and spirit of the game. On Saturday, it was senior day at the Polson Sports Complex, and the Lady Pirates finished off an impressive regular season with a convincing 5-0 win over Libby.

Polson freshman Sarah Howell’s hat trick helped the Pirates in their win as she scored three goals to lead her team. Howell knocked in one score at the 8-minute mark before scoring back-to-back goals at the 61 and 65-minute marks.

Madeline Hewston and Annie Venters each added a pair of goals. With the win, the Lady Pirates secured third place at 4-4-0, 5-7-0. The team faces Southern A champion Hamilton on the road Saturday.
