101 boys and girls ages 6-15 participated at the Western Montana Sectional competition of the NFL Punt Pass & Kick program held Oct. 9 in Missoula.

Butte 7-year- old Kenley Leary of set a state record in both kicking event and overall score for his age group.

Competition was fiercest in the girls’ 8-9 age group, with less than four feet separating the top three finishers, and in the boys’ 10-11 age group, with a mere three inches deciding second place.

The event was hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Missoula, and Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company of Missoula provided both free T-shirts and Gatorade beverage to all competitors.

Western Montana has traditionally qualified most of its age group champions for the Seattle event. In 2010, Western Montana garnered three individual championships in Seattle: Cole Karlin of Co. Falls; Jaycee Frydenlund of Missoula; and Micalann McCrea of Pablo

The top three finishers in the sectional competition and their combined totals (distance in the three events) were as follows:
