POLSON — Roger Bordeaux, 64, Polson, was struck and killed by a car the evening of May 7 as he was apparently walking across Highway 93 near Super 1 Foods. There is no crosswalk where he was hit, according to Polson Chief of Police Wade Nash. Rumors of a hit-and-run are incorrect, Nash said.
The westbound driver did not see Bordeaux due to the glare of the setting sun at 7:34 p.m. Saturday, Nash said.
This time of year when the rising sun is directly east and the setting sun is directly west, “it gets pretty brutal,” Nash said. “I worry about the school zones when it’s like that.”
The driver is fully cooperating with the investigation, Nash added, and charges have not been filed. At this point in the investigation, which is still ongoing, it does not appear that alcohol, drugs or texting contributed to the incident, according to Nash.
A second wreck occurred nearly simultaneously just east of the incident, Nash said, and was likely related to the traffic flow, but was a separate incident.
Bordeaux is the owner of Roger’s Pies, where he would sell his homemade desserts from a simple folding table along the highway across from Super 1 Foods. A memorial has been set up at the site.
