Arlee’s Rice claims another divisional title, Mission-Charlo to send 5 to state

The Arlee Warriors fell just 10 points shy of a divisional wrestling title Saturday as they hosted the Western C Divisional Tournament.

Florence earned its second straight Western C title with 154 points while the Warriors were second with 144. Mission/Charlo finished sixth in the 11-team field with 89 points.

Both Arlee and Mission/Charlo each had one divisional champion at the tournament as Jacen Petersen won the 152-pound weight class for the Bulldogs while defending state champion Cole Rice won the 145-pound division for Arlee.

The Warriors will send nine wresters to the state meet in Hamilton, which begins Thursday, while Mission/Charlo will send five.

Rice earned his division title for Arlee with a 5:10 pin of Bobby Ray of Deer Lodge in the finals. Joining Rice at state for the Warriors will be Zach Tameler, who finished second in the 140-pound division. Austin Rubel finished third via forfeit in the 125-pound weight class while Leif Rova was third in the 152-pound weight class after picking up a 6-2 decision over Curtis McDuffie of Eureka. Albert Plant earned third in the 160-pound weight class with a 16-6 major decision against Kolter Beneitone of Florence. Curt Siedel was third in the 215-pound weight class with a 9-3 decision against Mission/Charlo's Chad Anderson.

Cameron Dominick, Nathan Bertolit, and Clayton Trimble all earned a trip to state for Arlee with fourth-place finishes.

Petersen won his 152-pound divisional title for Mission/Charlo with a pin of Florence's Zach Newbary in 2:49 in the final. Scotty Gilleard was second in the 130-pound division for the Bulldogs. Dillon Edwards earned a trip to state by pinning Jake Logan of Deer Lodge in 1:18 for third place in the 105-pound division. Colten Toren finished fourth in the 145-pound weight class and Chad Anderson was fourth in the 215-pound division.
