In a timely opening just prior to Montana’s primary election, Port Polson Players is presenting “Who’s John Doe?”, an apolitical play without party affiliation that was originally a 1941 movie titled “Meet John Doe,” starring Gary Cooper.
“What is amazing to us is how the old words in that script are every bit as relevant today as they were back then… even more so after what we’ve all witnessed so far with the current U.S. Presidential Primaries,” Port Polson Players' Karen Lewing said.
So who is John Doe?
“We the People” are,” Lewing said. “It’s a wonderful story, with humor, love, respect, and most of all it touts pride in our great U.S.A.”
Twenty-five community members make up the cast set in a 1940s timeline. The play is directed by Neal Lewing.
The comedy/drama plays at Polson’s Theatre on the Lake two weekends, May 20, 21, 22 and May 27, 28, 29. Curtain times Friday and Saturday evenings are 7:30 p.m., with 2 p.m. Sunday matinees.
