Editor,

Are you lonesome for the seven little grey kittens that you played with and trained to use the litter box? This letter is for you. It was by chance that my daughter missed her turn off and proceeded farther than she normally travels down Pow-Wow Road at about 10 o’clock in the morning on Christmas Eve.

She slowed for what she thought to be a dead animal in the middle of the road, but when she observed movement, she stopped to investigate.

She found a pile of baby grey kittens, the smallest two on the bottom of the pile were almost frozen to the road. She gathered them up, placed them in her car and proceeded to the house of her friend.

The Missoula County Human Society told her over the phone that they couldn’t take the kittens until the next Tuesday. What to do? The only thing to do was change the plan for a few dollars and direct it to the immediate need for kitten food and kitty litter. The kittens quickly responded to the food and warmth and especially loved the tall basket and large house my daughter made from a large box in which she had cut many openings for in and out and they knew what a litter box was for. You trained them well. We enjoyed them.

Our Rottweiler thought them too rowdy and he was happy to see them leave on Tuesday. The Human Society attendant treated them for ear mites, wormed them and they will be neutered before being adopted by someone who loves cats. They will be adopted by only loving, responsible families who can afford to provide the care the pets deserve. Meanwhile, you will know that they are being well cared for. If sometime you have a dollar, you might place it in an envelope addressed to the Missoula County Human Society. They always need help for the wonderful work they do in caring for and finding homes for our best friends.

Also, when my daughter removed the towels from the bottom of the laundry basket the kittens played in, she found the keys we had been searching for since July.
